I've been using this route as a benchmark for about eight years. The A1060 actually runs from Bishop's Stortford to Chelmsford. If combined with the 26 mile stretch of the B1383/A1301 from Stortford to Cambridge, which has a few more challenging bends, you can turn this loop into an excellent little outing. If you don't want to follow the route all the way into Chelmsford, the petrol station just East of the roundabout between Roxwell and Chelmsford makes a good endpoint. Coming back West into Storford, just continue straight and you'll be on the B1383, which takes you past Saffron Waldon and Audley End with another good endpoint at the petrol station/McDonald's at the A505 junction. Few opportunities to overtake on this road and you must bind the speed restrictions through villages, but there's little traffic outside commuting hours.
MifuneA few good slow and fast bends and a little used road given the area. But a few areas where you would like to overtake but a bit risky given long left-hookers and lots of side roads / farm tracks. Had a few scary moments on this road, but agree with others a bit of a gem for the area.
KTMmanA great run for a big tourer, had a very pleasant run and surprisingly not too busy on a warm Saturday afternoon.
Drewpleasure inducing benchmark!
nice combo of flowing/sweeping bends and good mid speed (upto 60mph) corners.
a favourite and easy to get to (from north london). fairly new to biking and am learning everytime i take this road. nice one.
next time you see a guy on a harley sportster going for it along here gimme a wave
happydog457Only been riding a couple of months, but used to commute on this road every day for 3 years - knew it was fun in a car, but much better on a bike.
Generally use this as part of an all dayer up to Saffron Walden, across to Haverhill then down to, surprise surprise, Finchingfield - its nice to let rip on a road I actually know well, so itll be in my favourite list for some time to come!
Yeah a good road with one really epic corner nr Hatfield Heath, with a junction for a farmhouse.
Cannot say ive noticed many police around although roads approaching this road have those new signs saying helicopters are monitoring speeding vehicles from overhead!
i have been down there a few times now, a good general route can add it to a few others in the area to make a all day thing if you wanted to, the last time i went down it there where a few more police than usual?
