The Cherohala Skyway section between Robbinsville and Tellico Plains is amazing! This route is full of fun corners and mountain views - absolutely gorgeous. It´s a challenging route if you want to push yourself in the corners, but makes for a very nice cruiser route also. This is an overall winner in my book! One of my top 5 routes in the entire U.S.
The first half of this ride from Gatlinburg out Little river road to Townsend is great drive along the river. Foothills parkway over to U.S. 129 (A.K.A.) THE DRAGON, is just as nice. U.S. 129 starts out ok, then quickly turns to WOW, Turns turns and more turns. 318 in just 11 miles, and turns they are. At the end of the Dragon,there are a couple places to stop and get your Tee-shirt and stickers. Continue on US 129 to the Cherohala skyway (make sure to fill up with gas before the skyway, because after you get on it there is no gas for about 50 miles or so). After the skyway it is just good riding back to US 129. Then you get back on the Foothills Parkway and then back to Gatlinburg. The law can be tough on speed demons so be careful especially across the Dragon.
