I was there in July 2015 with my Honda CB1100 EX and it was just wonderful. I had no (major) traffic issue. Sure, some cars and vans used the street too but it was easy to leave them behind :)
I really enjoyed the trip and the view from above is lovely.
I´ll do it again

The views are great, and as long as you're nearby it would be a shame to miss riding the highest paved pass in the Alps! I've ridden it several times and don't remember the traffic issues some other posters have mentioned. Maybe I'm just lucky. The road up from Jausiers was quite good in 2011. With great altitude the weather can change quickly up there, and we rode up in rain and hail in July, so be prepared.

As is so often true in the Alps, each road is close by other great roads, and it's easy to make a loop that incorporates Bonette with other roads that will provide a very entertaining day.

Road is too busy of course but you can ride it only for the fantstic scenery. Its actually 2802 according to my GPS. 2862m is at the top of the cliff. You have to get off your bike and walk up to the cliff ;)

A route which is probably enjoyed for the surrounding scenery rather than the road itself. Heading north I found the road up quite narrow with more traffic than you'd expect, although the run down the other side is more open and flowing. Better suited to Hornet/Fazer or BMW GS's than a full on sports bike. The detour around the top is worthwhile for the view of the valley below. It was bloody cold up there as well!!

Actually, the Col itself, at 2715 meteres is not the highest pass in the Alps; that is Col d'Iseran at 2770 meteres, followed by Passo Dello Stelvio at 2760 meteres. But, the short (1500 meter) loop road, Cime La Bonette does rise to 2802/2862 mteres (depends on whose number you believe) which makes it the highest paved road in the Alps. I'd be interested to see accurate G.P.S. altitudes for these (and other) passes.

The highest mountainpass in Europe, beautifful scenery everywhere, but, be aware for hazards. Coming from the Southside, some hairpins are only noticed untill it's allmost to late: scary moments! Otherwise, well worth the detour!

Well worth taking the road up to the ski resort at Isola 2000 (great views at the top, and quiet in summer), then take the minor road over the border into Italy and down a lovely valley road to join the 21 near Vinadio. would make a good round trip.

The famous la Bonnette road, believed to be the highest pass in Europe. Spectacular views and a great view from the top.
